From reading the wonder woman
article, it seems to me that people chose not to have woman superheroes because
they feel that it’s not a necessity in society. It goes into a little depth
about how other productive woman movies that came out did like hunger games but
for the most part the question still arises. Why isn’t there a wonder woman
movie? In my personal opinion, I think it will attract new audiences especially
woman because it is something they can relate too. I like how at the end of
this article it states that it all comes down to the kids because it does. They
are going to be the people who watch the show the most.
I see that there is racism being
brought up in the X-men articles and how people relate professor x to Martin
Luther king Jr. Both talking about peace while magneto is his enemy. He relates
to Malcolm X both wanting violent destruction. We see that X-men is seen to
some people as discriminatory because everyone that plays the roles are wealthy
white men. This article also goes into depth about the civil right movement
because they relate back to the struggles. In my opinion I feel that there
needs to be equality throughout movies especially with superheroes because we
see the white male actor more often then the black actor. We see the race and
identity brought up too throughout the x-men series because the x-men series is
not shy about how they do things. It’s interesting how the writer once said "So what we have here, intended or not, is
a book that is about racism, bigotry and prejudice." We see depiction
shown throughout and this bring out a lot of racism and confrontation with
people.
I like how marvel tries to tries new things and broaden their
spectrums because changing the ordinary will attract different audiences. They
are changing Spiderman, green lantern, etc. to half black or Muslim characters.
Come to find out Alan Scott the creator of green lantern is actually gay. We
are seeing an era change and I think this is a bold move for DC comics. We see
equality being created throughout the comic world and this is capturing
Americas eyes because these are characters we all grew up with and watched.
I am a little confused with the two clips we are supposed to
watch. I watched them but I don’t think I actually understand them. I say this
because in Monty we see no leader or king in that matter. They all see to have
equal rights as a community but a king from a different land does not
understand what is going on. In the Camelot trailer we see all the characters
are white, at least all the main characters are. So maybe in class we can
elaborate more on these videos. I am having trouble relating the videos to the
articles, I understand that since these actual movies are probably racist and
discriminatory in their own ways we can relate to that but I was wondering if
there were other things that came up.
